Anián cuts and sews recycled-wool clothing in Vancouver, British Columbia, from wool milled in Italy.
Anián makes clothing in Vancouver, British Columbia, from fibre that has already been worn once. Paul Long started the company on Vancouver Island in 2013, shaping surfboards, and moved it into garments on the same premise: use what the coast already has.
Anián designs in Victoria, where it keeps its head office and its first store. A mill in Prato, Italy weaves the cloth. Prato is one of the few places left that respins used wool at scale, and the finished cloth comes back to Vancouver for cutting and sewing. We name Vancouver because the sewing happens there.
The mill shreds and respins post-consumer wool, then weaves it into melton, a dense cloth. The blend runs 80 percent recycled wool to 20 percent nylon for strength. Anián cuts and sews the shirts and coats in Vancouver, so they are made in Canada from Italian-milled cloth. Some lines run dye-free.
Anián counts the textiles it has kept out of landfills in the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Materials and process

Ownership
Paul Long founded Anián in 2013, and the company is independent. Its head office and first store are in Victoria.
